Why are we using Delicious?

  • to connect with and gather information from a wide community interested in adult basic education;
  • to explore ways of using social bookmarking that can be helpful to adult basic educators.

What is social bookmarking?

Social bookmarking lets Internet users share, organize and search links to web sites.

When using a social bookmarking site, you can:

  • view your bookmarks from any computer, not only from a specific one
  • share your bookmarks with others
  • find others who have interesting bookmarks and add their links to your collection

This video is an excellent tool to understand social bookmaking:

Social bookmarking and adult literacy

Using social bookmarking can enable adult literacy educators to:

  • network with peer educators;
  • create social bookmark accounts for a group of practitioners who can all contribute to the collection of links;
  • allow educators and students to share bookmarks in the classroom and at home;
  • collaborate and share bookmarks with larger communities.

How do I start using social bookmarking?

In order to use social bookmarking, you have to join a social bookmarking site. If you would like to sign up with Delicious, you can do it here: http://delicious.com/ (Click on Join Now at the top).

You can also find a list of other social bookmarking sites here: Social bookmarking on Wikipedia.
