Tumblr – a blogging platform

October 13th, 2014 by Monika Jankowska-Pacyna

Known as a micro-blogging (short-form blogs) platform, Tumblr allows you to post text, photos, quotes, links, music, and videos from your browser, phone, desktop, email or wherever you happen to be.

Some describe Tumblr as a mix between Twitter (social networking component and short posts) and WordPress (blog roll with the latest updates showing first).

With a quick and easy way to set up and add content, Tumblr can be a great tool to create a classroom blog or to set up student blogs where student can share pictures, writing assignments, quotes, poems, videos, and even chat, while developing their digital technology skills in the process.

Founded in 2007 by David Karp when he was in his twenties, Tumblr is now owned by Yahoo! Inc. The platform is very popular among younger users, with 77% of consumers aged 16 to 34, but it is gaining popularity with older users as well.
