Guillaume is an experienced IT professional who has contributed to many organizations, including the Ontario Ministry of Government and Consumer Services, Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, TD Bank and MCI/WorldCom. He holds an MBA from the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management and a global executive MBA from the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland.
With over 20 years of experience, Guillaume specializes in IT operations management, data centre management and IT infrastructure. In addition, he has managed large IT infrastructures as an IT director for various organizations and is currently an independent IT consultant for the Province of Ontario.
Peter is a licensed professional engineer who holds a degree in electrical engineering from Carleton University. In addition to working in the technical side of business at Telus Communications, Peter is a passionate individual, driven entrepreneur and the owner of a small green-technology consulting firm. An experienced teacher, his previous role includes teaching computer networking and digital electronics as a part-time instructor at Centennial College. Peter lends his well-rounded expertise and experience with technology as well as his entrepreneurial, teaching and communication skills to the AlphaPlus Board.
Karen is the Knowledge Exchange Manager with Safeguards Training for Children and Adult Services in Richmond Hill. A passionate advocate for technology literacy, Karen has enjoyed active involvement in many AlphaPlus programs over the years. She holds an Honour’s degree in Psychology from York University, and a Teacher/Trainer of Adults certificate from Centennial College. In a previous role, she spent eight years with the York Region District School Board as a Literacy and Basic Skills Instructor before becoming involved in the mental health sector. Karen is excited to bring the practitioner perspective to the Board of Directors.
Lily Chong brings more than ten years of experience in institutional research and program review and higher education to the board of directors. She holds a Master’s degree in Adult Education, a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and teaches ESL online and in traditional classroom settings. Throughout her career, Lily has mentored newcomers navigating workplace cultures; worked in healthcare, management consulting and insurance, and been involved in student retention and satisfaction research studies. Her drive to educate international students led Lily to teach English as a Second Language, where she strives to implement effective classroom technologies to improve academic outcomes.
Dr. Nicola Hepburn
Nicola Hepburn is a Senior Policy Advisor in the Programs Policy and Analytics Branch at the Ontario Ministry of Finance. In her previous work, Nicola held policy and research positions at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, Scotiabank, the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Innovation, the Council of Ontario Universities, and the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations. Nicola holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and sociology, a master’s degree in public policy and administration from McMaster University, and a doctor of philosophy in political science from the University of Toronto. She brings extensive expertise in communications, government affairs and knowledge transfer to the Board.
Yasir Mirza is a member of Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada with over 15 years of experience in public practice and both public and private industries. Presently, he is the Director, Global Accounting Policy, Group Finance for Manulife. Throughout his career, Yasir has managed financial functions including accounting policy, auditing, controls, and governance. He is also a member of professional accounting and auditing bodies in the United States, and the United Kingdom. In addition, Yasir has worked in statutory and management reporting, and contributed to many strategic initiatives. As a board member, Yasir will contribute his expertise in financial management, policy interpretation, and regulations to support the AlphaPlus mission.
Dr. Koosha Golmohammadi
Koosha Golmohammadi, has over 12-years’ experience in operational advanced analytics and driving business value. Koosha holds a PhD in computer science from the University of Alberta as well as an MSc and a BSc in software engineering. Throughout his career, Koosha has worked in different capacities as an analytics leader, consultant, and data scientist leading several teams and project portfolios and leveraging data analytics. His experience and expertise ultimately led to his current role as Director of Advanced Analytics at Manulife John Hancock.
As a lifelong learner, Koosha is passionate about supporting teachers and learners. He has contributed to initiatives with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) including the Teacher In-Service Program, teaching engineering concepts to elementary students. In addition, he served as Chair of Computers and Communication of IEEE Northern Canada Section from 2012 to 2017, and co-founded the Data Social Club, a non-profit to promote data science in 2017.
Andrew Vaughan is an experienced criminal lawyer practicing in the GTA and a long term member on Legal Aid Ontario’s Extremely Serious Criminal Matters Panel. Andrew holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Calgary and received his law degree at Queen’s University.
Throughout his career, Andrew has mentored students and early-career lawyers to navigate workplace culture and demands while working as a firm manager himself. Throughout Andrew’s career, he has contributed to many charitable organizations. This includes serving as a member of the Board of Directors at Humewood House, a not-for-profit organization providing housing and support to youthful single mothers and vulnerable young pregnant women.
As a board member, Andrew intends to lend his well-rounded legal expertise, advocacy skills, and passion for adult education to support AlphaPlus in achieving its mission.
