Developing a road map to enhance Ontario’s LBS system capacity

January 20th, 2022 by Alan Cherwinski

About the project

In recent years, digital learning and technology have undergone rapid transformation and growth. The Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD) asked AlphaPlus and Contact North|Contact Nord to consult stakeholders in Ontario’s Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) system. The purpose of these consultations is to develop a road map for enhancing Ontario’s LBS system capacity to deliver more services remotely and expand blended learning opportunities to serve more learners.

The project has three phases.

  1. An initial meeting was held December 8, 2021, with representatives from e-Channel providers and LBS provincial support organizations. This meeting was the first step in engaging LBS system stakeholders to develop a shared vision and co-design a road map of how digital and blended learning can be expanded and better delivered in Ontario.
  2. From January to March, a total of 13 consultation sessions will take place involving learners, educators and administrators and representing service providers in all streams and sectors.
  3. After the consultations, e-Channel providers and LBS provincial support organizations will meet again to develop a draft road map.

What to expect

We recognize you’re being consulted once again but we’re cautiously optimistic about what this could mean for our field as a whole. Now is an excellent time to provide insight into the problems that remain and the solutions we need. We want to help ensure that the right people are consulted and heard, and that good information gets into the hands of decision-makers.

How to get involved

This initiative is progressing quickly, with multiple organizations playing a role. We’ve set up a home base to provide you with essential information and updates.

To get involved, contact an e-Channel provider or provincial support organization. Timelines are tight, spaces are limited and consultations may have already occurred. You can also share your insights directly and anonymously in a brief form.
