google calendarGoogle Calendar lets you organize your schedule online. One of many applications available through a Gmai account – such as Documents, Sites, Maps, Images, and many more – it lets you keep track of your own events and share your calendars with others.

With its simple-to-use interface, it is also a great tool to help literacy students manage their time, plan meetings and get organized.

In fact, the Calendar is so easy to use that you can add events and reminders by simply selecting Quick Add:

Did you know that Google Calendar can also be synchronized with Microsoft Outlook and mobile devices? Visit Sync, importing and exporting to learn more.

A great and quick way to explore the calendar features is to review Google Calendar Basics:

One of our favourite features of Google Calendar is that you can have multiple calendars within your account and share them with others. You might want a calendar for your staff, as well as a calendar for your LBS class to schedule classes, assignments, and special events that all students can view. You can even browse and add interesting calendars such as Canadian Holidays or even Phases of the Moon. All of these are accessible and visible through your Google Calendar.

Literacy students can find managing their daily lives, work and family responsibilities very stressful. Google Calendar can help them reduce that stress. Learning to schedule their activities and stay organized can also help them develop their Manage Learning Competency and time-management skills.

By sharing their calendars with teachers and family they can build a network and a community they can work with and get support from.
