Join the Board

Are you a lifelong learner who’s inspired by AlphaPlus’s vision of a people-first approach to integrating educational technology?

Do you believe in our model of asset-building collaborations and partnerships that enable and empower literacy educators to be innovative and creative?

Would you enjoy supporting a small, ambitious organization with big dreams?

If so, you could be the person we’re looking for!

Contact Alan Cherwinski, executive director, at acherwinski@alphaplus.ca to learn more about joining our board.

You don’t need any previous experience of board or leadership roles. We’re committed to supporting you to develop new skills in your role as a board member. We are also committed to developing our own skills and culture to ensure we’re an inclusive board.

We ask board members to:

  • Attend four or five board meetings a year. Meetings are held in person in Toronto or online via digital meeting platforms and are conducted in English.
  • Become an active member of one standing subcommittee.
  • Ensure organizational goals, mission, policies and strategic priorities are met and remain relevant.
  • Provide active and ongoing advice and counsel to the board and agency as required.
  • Be a resident of Ontario.
  • Serve a minimum three-year term.

We want our board to reflect the communities we work in and to have a range of different voices within it. We’re looking for people with real life experience of the challenges we’re tackling.

Here are some areas of knowledge that would help us in our work:

  • Communications and marketing.
  • Accounting.
  • Information technology consulting.
  • Government relations.
  • Adult education.
  • Sectoral knowledge of the anglophone, francophone, Indigenous, deaf and deaf-blind communities.
  • Organizational development.
